GSW Hurricanes earn 2019-20 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

By Keith Michlig

AMERICUS – The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) is proud to recognize the Georgia Southwestern State baseball team, who has been awarded the 2019-20 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.

The Hurricanes, who were one of the 423 college and high school programs nominated, were honored with this year’s award after posting a 3.244 team GPA for the entire 2019-20 academic year. Overall, a total of 54 NCAA DII teams received the award; including GSW’s fellow Peach Belt Conference foe North Georgia.

Coaches were able to nominate their teams for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award following the conclusion of their spring semesters prior to the nomination deadline. To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be a high school or college team
  2. The head coach must be a current ABCA member
  3. The team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2019-20 academic year (Due to some schools changing to Pass/Fail grading, spring semester grades were not required to be included in the cumulative calculation).
