Schley County Farm Bureau wins 8th District award for membership efforts

Schley County Farm Bureau has just been recognized during the Georgia Farm Bureau 8th District Annual Meeting in Macon for having an increase in membership over the previous year.

Schley County Farm Bureau President Johnny Lightner accepted the 2019 Georgia Farm Bureau Membership Award.

The Georgia Farm Bureau 8th District includes 17 county farm bureaus in Southwest Georgia.

Farm Bureau was founded in 1937. Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization and has 158 county offices. It’s a volunteer member actively participate in local, state, and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors.

Georgia Farm Bureau also has 20 agricultural commodity advisory committees that give the organization input on issues pertinent to the major crops and livestock grown in Georgia.

Congratulations to the Schley County Farm Bureau.

 

Ellaville-Schley historic society auction successful

The Ellaville-Schley County Historic Society auction was held Sept. 14. The special event began at 4:30 p.m. with Lonesome Road Blue Grass Band playing for two hours.

A barbecue supper was served beginning at 5 p.m. A Bake Sale was also held, and then later on a drawing was held for the for the lovely handmade quilt which was won by the Ellaville Lions.

The historic society thanks everyone for their kind donations and for those who bid on these nice items.

Thanks to all the Auction Committee members for everything that they did to help make this annual fundraising event a success.
